“We don’t need to say 'Good-bye' anymore!” This was what my wife said on our wedding day. When we met each other, I was in Japan, and she was in Austin, TX. Soon, I came to San Antonio, TX to do a graduate study: We got closer and lived in the same state, but were not as close as we wanted to be. Since I did not have a car, I could not go see her when I wanted, but instead, I purchased a Greyhound bus ticket once a month to see her just for a day for two years. So, the wedding day was truly the beginning of our life together without saying “Good-bye” to each other.
I relate this relationship of ours to the relationship that God bestows on us. The God of the Bible introduced Himself as Love (1 John 4:8). This invisible God who dwells and exists in eternity once became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). This is great enough to be called the Gospel – Good News – but the incarnated God, Jesus, said before He left the earth, “It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7). God the Father exists, but not seen; God the Son came to dwell among us, but had to leave; God the Holy Spirit abides in anyone who surrenders to the Lordship of Jesus Christ now and forever. Neither we nor God need to say “Good-bye” anymore. This is great news!
How do you view and treat the Spirit of the living God? Do you desire to understand more of the Holy Spirit? Do you commune with Him daily and truly know who He is and what He desires? The apostle Paul commanded not to grieve nor quench the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30 & 1 Corinthians 12:31), but to walk in the Holy Spirit and be led by Him (Galatians 5:16 & Romans 8:14).
Our community and movement truly believe in and depend on the works of the Holy Spirit in and through us. We desire each one of you to know the Holy Spirit intimately and commune with Him daily. For the next several weeks, let’s discover more of the Holy Spirit together!
